Spend the week with us at the Ivy League in New York City

Greetings from Columbia University! We want to share some details about our upcoming summer program, designed for student journalists and media advisers.
The Columbia Scholastic Press Association invites high school print and online staffs and advisers to its 33rd annual Summer Journalism Workshop, held on the historic campus of Columbia University in the City of New York from June 22-27, 2014.
New Classes in Writing, Design Added for Summer Journalism Workshop

The CSPA has added two new classes to the roster of its Summer Journalism Workshop for 2014.
“An enrollment surge has already closed one of the initial two classes offered for Reporting and Writing plus we wanted to add more time and attention for design work, too,” said Edmund J. Sullivan, CSPA’s executive director. “We found two great instructors so we are set to go.”
Class 3 of the News Reporting and Writing sequence is being taught by Chris Waugaman of Prince George High School in Virginia. More details can be found at this link.
Design Concepts will be taught by Pete LeBlanc from Antelope High School in California. He has taught design for both news and yearbooks staffs at the SJW in prior years and welcomes both to this class this June. More details on this class can be found at this link.

Places are still available in other classes with the registration deadline of Monday, May 5th, still one month away. However, if you are interested, don’t delay in making arrangements. More information can be found in the Summer Journalism Workshop section of the CSPA website.
Our six (6) classes include:
• Reporting & Writing (Only 25 seats remaining.)
• Editorial Leadership (Only 35 seats remaining.)
• Design Concepts (Only 13 seats remaining.)

Some comments from recent participants:
“I am leaving with a great deal of knowledge of how to pioneer this project at my school, how to maintain and develop the site, and all of the possibilities that an online newspaper has to offer.” Public High School Online Media Adviser
“[I am proud of] my new proficiency with InDesign. I feel confident that I will be able to go back to my school newspaper and be a leader and be able to make our paper the best it has ever been.” Private/Parochial High School Newspaper Editor/Manager
“[The dormitory arrangements were] really fun. Every dorm member brought something that I learned from them. In fact, I had more fun with them in four days than I had with others in a month.” Private/Parochial High School Newspaper Staff Member
“[I thought the evening activities were] very interesting and informative and acted as great supplements to the work we did during regular class.” Private/Parochial High School Newspaper Editor-in-Chief

SPACES ARE AVAILABLE – DON’T DELAY!
Registration for this five-day intensive program is limited to 160 participants.
Due to the Workshop’s limited enrollment, we encourage potential attendees to register as soon as possible since registration ends when when classes are full or by May 5th, whichever occurs sooner.
Full payment for all registrants is due by June 2nd.
For more details, including forms, class descriptions and instructor profiles, please visit our Web site.
Feel free to contact us with any questions about the Workshop – by phone (212-854-9400) or by e-mail ([email protected]).
