Woodworking for WildAid

Woodworking+for+WildAid

Students at Laguna pass the time in a variety of unique ways; hobbies can range from sports, to crafts, to performing arts.
Phillip Hicks ‘16 has a very uncommon hobby. In the ninth grade, he started making and selling handcrafted pens.
“My dad got me started on woodworking. Over time, we made a few different projects and eventually we came across the pens, which were fun, quick and easy to make,” Phillip said.
Phillip is the founder and president of our campus WildAid Shark Conservation club, which is dedicated to helping sharks by raising funds for WildAid through selling pens.
The club has successfully raised 5,000 dollars this year to donate to the cause.
The pens come in several types of exotic woods and all earnings from sales are donated. To purchase one of these pens ($25) and to learn more, visit savethesharkpens.com or talk to Phillip on campus.
“My daughter, Ana, collects pens. I bought her one of Phillip’s pens for Christmas and she really likes it,” public speaking teacher Trish McHale said.
