Volunteers Needed American Heart Association’s Healthy Futures Program

Volunteers Needed American Heart Association’s Healthy Futures Program

My name is Kirsten Macfadyen and I am a former student of Laguna Blanca School. I now work for a non-profit called Partners in Education, which helps local schools and other youth serving organizations find the help they need in order to succeed. We do this by recruiting volunteers to be tutors and mentors in the classroom, set up career days, community service and job fairs, etc. My task at the moment is to find high school volunteers to help out with the American Heart Association’s Healthy Futures Program. The Healthy Futures Program seeks to empower children and their families to make healthier lifestyle choices by addressing health issues such as, obesity and heart disease. I think this will be an awesome opportunity for the Laguna community, while helping students fulfill the community service requirement. The program consists of four, 1-hour interactive student workshops, once a week for a 4 week period (4 hours total). Through the program, the volunteers will attend a training which will teach them how to lead young students and to help those students learn the ABCs of cardiovascular health, learn to read food labels, prepare healthy snacks, and tips on healthy eating out. It is a 4 week commitment held at 8 different elementary school locations. I have listed the dates and locations below:

Adams Elementary, McKinley Elementary, Harding Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Adelante Charter School, Cleveland Elementary, Santa Barbara Community Academy all take place on 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1 from 4:30-5:15pm
&
La Patera Elementary takes place on 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30 from 2-3pm.

Sarah Stretz, the Business Development Director at the American Heart Association would love to have 3 volunteers at each location. If you could please pass this memo on to your students, it would be greatly appreciated. If your students are interested, please have them sign-up via this link: http://partners.sbceo.org/forms/htgi_signup.php?title=HFP.
Thank you, Mr. Hodges, and I hope you have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Kirsten Macfadyen
